my friend let me borrow her subs of Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (a.k.a. Kare Kano), and I've just seen the first few episodes. it's made by GAINAX, the same people that made FLCL, and i have to say that i'm really enjoying it. are any other Kare Kano fans out here?
here's the storyline for those who haven't heard of it or don't know it (taken from www.witch-hunter.net/karekano/):
"At the start of the series, we meet Miyazawa Yukino. At school, Yukino is the apparent picture of perfection- she has always excelled at everything she does, is sweet and kind, is beautiful, and is a top student. However, we soon learn that Yukino isn't what she appears to be- in reality, the model student is a facade, and she is actually an attention hog who does everything to seek praise and admiration from teachers and fellow students. Whereas school-Yukino is quiet, orderly, proper, and self-effacing, the real Yukino is messy, loud, passionate, and a bit self-absorbed. For all of her life, Yukino has managed to keep her dual identity a secret from her peers- however, all of this changes when she meets Arima Souichiro, a boy every bit as perfect as Yukino, only Yukino is convinced he's the real deal. Handsome, intelligent, and athletic, Yukino believes Arima has stolen the spotlight from her and becomes intent on destroying him. But one day at home, when she lets her guard down, Arima accidentally sees her in her true form, Yukino soon learns that Arima isn't the poster boy of perfection he appears to be either."
"Although somewhat bizarre- thanks to a group of rather strange, but interesting and loveable, characters- the series is shoujo to the core with the requisite romance, comedy, drama, pretty boys, and angst. It looks at the boy/girl relationships between the characters, as well as the friendships formed between them, and it repeatedly brings up the idea of finding one's true self. Each character has a private side that he/she doesn't show to anyone else- not until he/she finds that special someone else they can truly be open and free with."
this is such an adorable series... if you like shoujo anime, that is. still, you ought to look into it.
