This is a warning to all non-japanese fluent personel, I wouldn't suggest buying Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence, why? There's no english dub and there's no subtitles, only closed captions. This movie is so difficult to get into because your consantly watching the action and the captions and missing key things. I just couldn't stand it and threw the damn thing as hard as I could into my wall and took it back to the store I bought it from. Major dissapoint, I wanted to cry. Anyway, I thought I'd just get the word out.

I know that the movie is pretty hard to follow because of all the philosophical dialogue. But you shouldn't give up, the more you watch it, the more you will like it. Anyways, there is another thread like this one, i recommend you check it out.

Yeah It was a letdown to say the least. It's just difficult for me to interpret the different voices because they sound alot alike. Also reading the subtitles keeps the eye from watching one of the most beautiful animated movies yet. My dvd box says that theres english subtitles and closed captions but the dvd only has the option of closed captions which is for the hearing impaired so whenever a sound is made big letters flash on screen i.e "Helicopter Noise", " Dog Whimpering", "Crowd Noice", "Gun Shot"... it really is unfair. Not to mention that no where on the my dvd box does it say that there's no english track, which from what I heard on the net it's supposed to say that. Sigh, twas a shame. I really enjoyed the first movie too. I'll check out the other thread too. For reconcile I still have that movie, when I went to take it back they wouldn't refund my money but said they'd just give me store credit. I'll watch it again because despite the langauge there's some cool action scenes from what I saw.

The movie is good, you should give it another try. I know that is hard to appreciate the beauty of the animation while trying to decipher what they are trying to say. Once you memorize the dialogue like me(most of it), you'll be able to enjoy it.
And the music is beautiful.

Why bring a dead thread back? Because there are wonderful news.
Following its successful nationwide theatrical release in October 2005, GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE comes to DVD on 27th February 2006 as a Deluxe Double Disc Edition boasting a host of never before seen extras including a world exclusive English language dub voiced by the original American "Ghost In The Shell' cast and a bonus booklet featuring a foreword by Jonathan Clements (co-author of The Anime Encyclopedia).
The first ever anime film to be nominated for the Cannes International Film Festival's highly prestigious Palme D'Or, GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE is a breathtaking technical and visual achievement four years in the making. A work that is as equally groundbreaking as its predecessor, it seamlessly combines 2-D and 3-D CG animation techniques to produce an action-packed, sci-fi fable of a solitary cyborg struggling to retain what's left of his humanity in a world where the human soul is gradually fading into obscurity.
It is the year 2032 and Earth is a world where the few remaining humans coexist with cyborgs, human spirits inhabiting mechanized bodies, and dolls, robots with no human elements whatsoever. A cyborg detective for the government's covert anti-terrorist unit Public Security Section 9, Batou is charged with investigating the bizarre case of a malfunctioning gynoid - a hyper-realistic female robot created specifically for sexual companionship - responsible for slaughtering its owner. Delving deeper and deeper into the investigation, Batou and his partner, Togusa, are forced to confront violent Yakuza thugs, devious hackers, influential government bureaucrats and powerful corporate criminals. As they move closer to uncovering the mystery, it slowly becomes apparent that the truth behind the crime is far more shocking than anyone dared imagine.
The Deluxe Double Disc Edition of GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE (cert. 15) will be released on DVD (19.99) by Manga Entertainment on 27th February 2006. This release will also be available as part of a three-disc GHOST IN THE SHELL MOVIE DOUBLE BILL Boxed Set (24.99) along with the Special Edition of the original feature length "Ghost In The Shell" anime.

I just saw it... i was lost as hell the first time; i watched it 2 x and now i sort of get it. What annoyed me was how every other line was a quote. I understand using quotes to prove your point but that many? Otherwise i really enjoyed the scene with the house where Batou and Togusa kept getting tricked by that old man. I had trouble with the subtitles because they went wayyyy too fast, however. Cool that it was nominated, i think this one was sort of over my head.

Yeah...the movie was filled with a bunch of philosophy. But everytime you watch it you understand a bit more and the enjoyment increases. And now with the English Dub(voice actors of GITS: SAC) everything is going to be a lot better. However, the bad news are, that it will be released in the UK and not here. It better find its way here.
