then correct it. whether or not it's rebundant wasn't the point at all, the point is whether it's acceptable. read the entire post please before attempting to crush one's views. Yes dvds now allow us to make the choice but the topic is not just limited to dvds. Networks all alike license anime, doesn't mean it'll be released on dvd. The point, which is what should have been addresed and not an attempt at whatever it was you were trying to prove, is whether we as a society should take a foreign art and change it to our tastes, or should we accept it as it is. This was meant to touch apon the fact that americans in general are often disatisfied with anime and whether we should be allowed to americanize it as much as we do. Once again try to read the whole post instead of seeing something you don't like and instantly throwing up a fasade. Your statement's rather crude, tell me how to fix it, you seem to know how. Change the topic...Or change the poll. Lets talk about network anime...Where's the choice? I don't see the option to change it from dub to sub. >.> There's also the fact that most network anime is aimed at a young audience, and thats why it's edited and there won't ever be anime series that is subbed. So how to fix this thread...Change the topic to something like "Opinion on Dubs today" That's the question you seem to be actually asking. On a side note...I always read the entire post before replying to it.

I don't understand why you seem so upset with the threads name. It implements the same thing, people all have thier own views on the matter, with whether they like dubs or subs.
Yeah the dub for the series is pretty good. Batou's voice is the best I feel and Motoko's fits her nicely. She just looks too young though, only thing that gets me.

ah, the great dub vs. sub debate...
dubs, if done well, are perfectly fine, and more and more often dubs that are well done are now appearing as the english-speaking fanbase grows. why? because with a growing fanbase there will be more and more people who dislike reading the subs either because they don't like them getting in the way of the animation or because they can't read that fast. that gives the companies more incentive to do at least a decent job when they dub. some dubs have even been done well enough for an audience without a complete understanding of Japanese humor and in-jokes the dub is far more enjoyable (i.e. Shinesman, sure, it has a couple seiyuu that I like doing voices in the original Japanese dialog, but they americanized the jokes in it in such a way it retained the humor value it had in Japan without being mauled, hence the reason I only watched it subbed once).
subs, the "true otaku" swear by them and treat them as having the most authentic translation, at least if they aren't those horrible bootleg subs. truth is, and many forget this, the translations in the subs can be off just as much as with dub translations (in the US release of Weiß Kreuz, a.k.a. Knight Hunters, the subs say Yoji's flower is the "balinese"... which is what his code name is, his flower is supposed to be the cattleya). true, they do have the potential to be more accurate, as with subtitles there isn't the need to make sure the translation synchs with the mouth movements, but there's still chances aplenty that they could get the translation off.
in the end, both have their merits, and with better and better jobs being done with dubs it's likely that having anime where, as with Wolf's Rain, the dub and the sub are equally as well done will become the norm.

pretty good summary. As long as the fanbase and industry for the dubs continue to grow and become better I want dubs to stay around. It saddens me when I think about Ghost in the Shell 2 not getting dubbed, they had a up and ready cast with SAC.

Most kid's anime like Yugio/Pokemon and other crap the dubs are usually bad and just put together last minute. More serious anime like Wolf's Ran usually have better dubs as far as ive seen.

It's pretty obvious how they spent alot of effort on the english dub. Im glad it was as good as it was. If it had been shoddy I wouldn't have gotten so hooked into Wolf's Rain.

I've been watching foreign films since forever so I'm used to subtitles, and I prefer them over dubs. That being said I have nothing against dubs-different strokes for different folks.

As good as some dubs are, watching an Asian person speak American/English sounds weird.

Very true. Another thing is many americans love the dialogue to move with the mouth flops their watching, something that makes dubbing no cake walk.

Very true. Another thing is many americans love the dialogue to move with the mouth flops their watching, something that makes dubbing no cake walk. i don't know about you, but i sure would want the characters' mouths to be in sync with what they're saying. at least in an animated film.

That's what I was saying. It's one reason why dialogue is changed so much. Trust me I too think it's very important that their mouths sync with their words, it's annoying when they don't.

Reading gives CANCER of the eyes! I prefer subs to dubs. I watch alot of action anime, and I find having to read and try to watch to action to be distracting. I suppose both are fine if it allows you to enjoy the show/movie, but as long as there is no engwish* I prefer to keep my reading to Manga and other books, when its T.V. time, its T.V. TIME, not reading fast-moving subtitle time *engwish= poor Japanese-to-English translation as in the game Zero Wing"All your bases are belong to us." rofl
