and of course everyone knows the history of the laughing man and his symbol....or at least i hope U all do well... remember, it could confuse ppl easily with the way they gave it out. i mean, i understand now where it originated from, but the show gives off many different areas of where it came from. some ppl that missed a episode could have the wrong idea, or just think somthing else. (spoiler) --- > sunflower society and the starbucks cup where he chatted with Serano.

Well, he pretended to be a bilnd mute in that institution for ppl with cyber brain closed shell syndrome, so he could get as much information as he could without having to talk or make much effort- at least thats what i believe.
as for the laughing man, he was named that because of his logo, which looks like a face laughing.

Yes but what i mean is the Salenger refrences to them Aoi only used a quote from Salinger's book, The Catcher in the Rye. Well, since Aoi REALLY likes to read books, i guess he thought that quote suited him well in his time of isolation. But i don't think it goes any deeper than that. Even Aoi was surprised that they took the Salinger approach.

Yes but what i mean is the Salenger refrences to them i believe aoi (man... it's hard to think that is how it's spelt after spelling it noi for so long) referenced nearly all of his many quotes. during his chat with serano, I think then he mentions where the quote was from. as for catcher in the rye... I've read only parts of it, with intentions of reading all of it once my friend allows me to borrow it. anyway, seems like much of who aoi is was borrowed from others, but armand is correct. aoi does mention the connection between him going into isolation and the book.

It is a fact that GitS references Salinger works heavily. If you hadn't noticed, many subtle details in the show reference parts of Catcher In The Rye. I went into it in detail in another GitS thread.

I just asked somebody about that and they said that the director/creator I dont remember his name, but from what they said he read that book found it very interesting and what do you know and sort of used it as a sub base. The reason you probably wont see reference to it in the movie is simply because I'm told the directors arent the same for the Movie and Series.
