are you blind dude? dont tell me you didn't just see Sean's post, this thread was bashed to hell all over liking a show. Not only that, but there were some posts that even went as far as to insult those who watch it. That's what you need to face, whether yugioh is childish or not I could really care less, but seriosly, some of what was said it didn't deserve, my point in a nut shell.

That's what I said. I never said "Don't say you don't like this show," because in reality I know there are those out there that don't, but what's the point in flaming others that do like it. I could easily get in here and say things like, "You're a thingy if you don't like it," but instead, if its good critiscism and not just the same crap over and over I leave it at that. Sure some dispute may come up, but it really makes me boil when people trash others just for liking something they don't. There is without a doubt that flames were thrown, and I had also thought of going back to quote them, but I chose not to.

I never said "Don't say you don't like this show," because in reality I know there are those out there that don't, but what's the point in flaming others that do like it. It's like, if you don't like it then stay out of the thread, or is it not allowed for us to enjoy something just because some others don't? I agree...this thread is trash, and flames have been thrown on both sides. A lot of people only leaped in here because of the opportunity posed by the first post. Of course, flaming is Sean's degree of study, whether things are going well or not working in his favor, whether it be toward other people for not saying something he likes or toward something that he does not like/know anything about and I only partially comment him for having the big, swinging brass balls to DARE criticize others for flaming. Hypocrisy has never been a favorite dish of mine, though. Flaming is something that will never be completely stopped, never be eradicated and it's idealistic and slightly naive to believe that most any thread (no offense, but especially a thread about Yu-Gi-Oh, which has born the brunt of much teasing, on a board where the more....adult-based animes are touted) can go without one single flame. And all it takes is one to start a fire. It's only when the flames get attention do they matter and ruin a thread. But some people just can't get over themselves and not-argue for one thread. They just have to have this "whose thingy is bigger" contest and go back and forth. Ignore flames and they won't matter. I suppose this is just too big a concept for most people to fathom. Not-replying to ignorance. Instead, we have to sit on our asses and whine, and wonder where the moderator is to make it go away, and bitch back at them which is probably the reason they came in the first place.

Well, Crickie just explained the flaming phenomenon rather well. I will admit that i did bash this show(and i still think it belongs in the trash), but not the ones who liked it. No one in this thread posted with the ill will to offend others. Scarred's point is simple, Yu-Gi-Oh is intended for kids and therefore it can be defined as childish. Sean merely bashed people who bashed the show(understandable but still hypocritical). Devin's point is simple as well, some of the posts were offensive and unnecessary. Crickie brought some common sense into all of this and so did Rinoa. With all of these being said, i suggest we bring this thread to a stop unless we want to discuss which duel monster is the strongest one.

Well since we are mod-less all we need is a little self restraint and be responsible enough not to post in f'ed up threads.

I agree with Crickie, Armand, and Scarred on these last matters. I don't think the thread should be locked however, but perhaps just gotten back on track again. It may not stay that way long, but until the mods do get on here to fix it or whatever they choose I think we all (myself included) could do more to stop the flaming. I'll agree that Yu-Gi-Oh! is meant for kids as it is made by "For Kids", but it doesn't stop me from liking it. On track, I do play the card game, I wouldn't call myself a master of it or anything and there certainly is no heart of the cards, but I would like to think I am fairly good at it. Though others would disagree by seeing what was in my deck. Oh well, I have fun with it. It's not like I'm actually out to win a championship. And the music they make, to make you feel like a professional duelist... gah... it's terribly dorky. The show however for me had it's extremely stupid moments, but in it's entirety it wasn't too bad I guess. Though I could have done without Tea's stupid pep talks.

I'm just going to post my opinions of Yu-Gi-Oh and hope nobody is mad I resurrected the thread. The thing I liked about the show was it was building a coherent mythology. It was a simplistic mythology, granted, but still more than Pokeman ever did. I won't say the show didn't have it's faults, such as Yu-Gi looked like a Precious Moments figurine when he wasn't possessed. Also, the spirit (Pharaoh) looked like him, slightly older. In the first season it didn't bother me that much, I assumed the spirit was using it's host body as reference. However, in the second season when it is explained he is an ancient Pharaoh, and they showed him in flashback, he still looked like Yu-Gi. Nobody in Egypt was that Caucasian. Though I can see the argument that Yu-Gi is somehow descended from the Pharaoh. (I don't know if he is, I stopped watching the show) The thing that finally got to me was in every episode "my monster card can kick you monster card's butt". So much of the show was taken up with the card fighting I lost interest. I don't know if it was toned down in the Japanese version.
But I did really like that Pegasus kept his word and released his captives when he lost the dual. I was worried it would be a several story arc to get them, but no. He lost, he kept his bargain. Honor is rarely seen in villains.

First, Yugi is the reincarnation of the Pharaoh. You know, 5,000 years later. Same thing with Bakura and what not. The show is based on a card game from wayyyyyyy back in teh day (Egypt), but they didn't use cards back then, they used real life monsters.

I don't really watch the chow, but I have a lil' brother who does..I think linking the game to ancient egypt was a cool mechanic to add to the story... since part of ancient egyptian beliefs involves invoking spirits to protect them...like summoning the monsters from the cards...
I also thought that the Pegasus character was rather amusing....
though this new season has me confused... Yugi isn't the main chracter of Yugi-Oh
