Well Im glad FMA has returned. What struck me most during this episodes was their teacher's ability to use alchemy without circles. And then she spit up blood or something. Any ideas on how she did that? I was thinking that maybe she has to give up part of herself to use that alchemy, which is why she threw up blood.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but i heard from a friend that the only people who can use alchemy without transmutation circles had to see "the gate" which Ed got to see when his mother's resurrection failed. I didnt press it further since i was just absent mindedly listening, but if she was coughing up blood i guess she didnt see "the gate" and your theory may be right.

Transmuting without a circle is a rare gift but i'm sure there are quite a few people that can do that. Why she spat out blood? My guess is that she is sick, a long term disease that is killing her slowly. And there seems to be a fertility problem or maybe a dead son or daughter.
What struck me most during this episode was the dead cat. Oh the poor kittens feeding of their dead mom.

Izumi is the awesomeness. The spitting up of blood will be explained later. I don't want to spoil anyone, but Armand, you're on the right track with the fertility problem. The dead cat was a surprise to me. I didn't expect that at all. There was something...eerie about watching her beat the shit out of Ed and Al at the end, though. But I guess I could see where she was coming from. And she hugged him, so you know she didn't just do it to be doing it.

Damn you Scarred and your minor spoilers. So, this means Izumi has tampered with human alchemy before. The gate Scarred is talking about might be the one Ed saw when Al's body was disintegrating and going through some sort of portal, gate, dimension, whatever it was. And if i'm on track with the fertility problem, then that must mean...damn, don't know where that piece fits.

Haha i saw the episode last night. I thought it was pretty deep even for FMA, but still had its humor. But perhaps she did the same thing, and maybe was so hard on them because she probably stressed it on them never to transmute humans. That beating was pretty harsh, and i nearly cried when the cat died.

eh... theres been deeper and darker episodes of FMA before... actually alot more now that i think about it.
so this "gate" lets people use alchemy without transmutation circles... then it was the gate Izumi was talking about when she asked Ed if he actually saw "it". So if Ed saw the gate through human alchemy, then their teacher used human alchemy before. pretty obvious now, maybe she tried that kinda of stuff on her child, because there was obviously a dark secret going on there.

Huh? of course there has, i just said this was pretty deep for it on the avg scale. I never thought about that connection, but now that you mention it, yeah, she musta done human alchemy too, since she was all quiet when asked about her family. EDIT: Being my spoiler-y self, i had to ask my friend about your suspicions. I dont want to spoil anything, but Matt, you were right.

The thread title has been changed from "The Teacher" to "[FMA] The Teacher" for clarification.
