Well well well, the next-gen consuls are breathing down our necks and poor lil Nintendo looks like they're gonna be left in the dust...with the DS sales being dwarfed by the PSP, and the Revolution being...well anything but revolutionary, a body tends to wonder what will become of our dearest little game company...
on a seperate note PS3 is supposed to sell for like $400(some say) and the pars alone cost more than that... how can they do this?

They will make a profit, no company will ever sell their product for less than what it is worth. Or perhaps they are relying on the good old Law of Demand.

law of demand...explain..please do you mean supply and demand? I don't see how that would work with 2 other competing companies

Therefore if the price of their substitutes is higher than theirs, than naturally their sales will go up. They'll try to sell as many consoles as possible. And then come up with hundreds of accesories. And of course, the games, oh yes, the games, they'll be more expensive than the current ones. So you see, don't worry about them, they know how to make a living.

but, the parts alone for the PS3 come to over $500, the expected retail price is only $400, they are expected to loose considerable mulah my fears are that my prefered game company will fall just as Nintendo has

Like i said before, the game console is not the only way they will make money. And if Microsoft keeps its reputation, then PS will also fall.

rabbi, you aren't grasping the point, Sony doesn't have the financial backing of Microsoft, I hate microsoft and the thought of it rising to the top

And you are not grasping the reality of it all. Microsoft will rise to the top, it is only a matter of time. All you can do is cherish the precious moments with your PS. Because, in a few a years, you'll be saying R.I.P. Play Station.

I'm with Sean. Fock the PSP. Right up the arse with no vaseline. I dunno....to me, it's not that impressive. In fact, it does TOO much. I mean, I honestly don't want to watch movies on something that small. The mp3 thing is nice, I'd use that....if I didn't already have an mp3 player. And I'd have to buy memory sticks? Pssh. And honestly, the games don't look all that impressive. A majority of them just look like beefed up or watered down versions of the games that are already out on other consoles.
I'd still rather have a DS, and once I get the money, I'm going to buy one...I've loved Nintendo since I was a kid, when I had the regular Nintendo console and 8 million games to go with it. Graduated to Super Nintendo at Christmas when I was like...11and I still have that one. Just about only Nintendo console I haven't owned was the Nintendo 64, and I STILL want one...lol. I think I even had every Game Boy style they released. I still mourn the death of my original Fuscia Game Boy Advance that accidentally got slammed in the car door, but if I hadn't busted that, I'd have probably never gotten the SP. I just think the stylus on the DS was friggin' genius. And WarioWare Touched...that mess can keep me quiet for hours.
I'm not too impressed really with any of the new consoles to be released. Probably because I haven't really seen them, seen what they could do. But X-Box has never done anything for me, I don't know much about the Revolution besides what's been publicized, and the $400 price tag on the PS3 has turned me off already. The only game console I've paid full beginning retail price for has been my Game Boy, $99.99, and even that much hurt me to do. Everything else has been purchased refurbished. Once I get my DS (I'll probably buy that one new, too...), I think I'll be set for life. Game systems aren't game systems anymore. They're all-purpose accessories, and I don't need all that, I don't need a console that will shave my armpits and wash my hair, or spatter me with blood when I shoot the zombie. I just want to play a game.
