I tell ya, I could be a movie critic if I wanted to . . .
But that's off-topic ^^ What's on-topic, though, is this review I'm writing. Now, what is OBSCURE? OBSCURE is a song by the Japanese rock band Dir en Grey. Now, most of you are going to stop reading this after reading that DeG is Japanese, but please keep reading. Trust me, you won't be disapointed.
Now, in late 2003, DeG released a music video for the OBSCURE song. Unfortunately, though, the video had to be edited in order to be shown on public television, thus cutting the full video down by almost an entire minute. Why?
Well, that's what I'm here to tell you all about! Unlike most American videos, the lead singer of DeG, Kyo, came-up with the idea for the video. Actually, there are eleven things going on in the video. So, he came-up with the ideas for the video.
IDEA 1: The members of the band play in a room, for the most part nicely dressed, full of corpses covered in body bags hanging from the cieling.
IDEA 2: Kyo excessively vomits throughout the entire video. There are maybe 5 shots total in which he isn't puking. And he dances like he's having convulsions. I laughed. Ha-ha.
IDEA 3: A woman wakes up on an operating table. You only see her head. Through her point of view, we can see she's naked. Camera pulls back . . . and we see her head is connected to her upper body by wires instead of a neck. Camera pans back even further, and we see that she's been cut into neat little segments.
IDEA 4: Some old dude in a temple prays in front of a flame to keep an evil spirit away from the temple. Sadly, though, his efforts are fruitless, as lumps form on his body. The lumps then form into baby heads, which he begins to saw-off with a razor. And he screams. Like a girl. I laughed. Ha-ha.
IDEA 5: A body bag moving around like there's something alive in it. Probably the least disturbing thing in the video.
IDEA 6: Later on in the video, Kyo's mouth explodes outward and tentacles fly every which way.
IDEA 7: Another member of the band sticks a sword through his head. XD
IDEA 8: Yet another member of the band changes into some kind of thing, then back into a person, so-on, so-forth.
IDEA 9: The final member of the band tears out his own heart.
IDEA 10: A geisha awakens in the middle of a blue desert. She walks over to a tree. Instead of fruit hanging off of it's branches, though, baby heads are. She picks one off, looks around, and then bites into the severed baby head. I laughed. Ha-ha.
IDEA 11: (This is the most disturbing idea in the video, so don't read on if the previous 10 disturbed you) Three geishas (in the first shot it's four, but one of them is absent in the rest of the shots, so meh) crawl over a guy who's completely naked except for a mask and a black speedo. Sticking out of the black speedo is a huge six-inch wide, two-foot long erection, and on the tip of it is . . . a baby head! (I tell ya, Kyo has an obsession with baby heads) A couple of the geishas make-out as the guy with the "Metal Erection of f**king Armageddon" (MEFA for short) rears-up behind the other geisha and thrusts home. She starts bleeding from her mouth. Nothing is shown of them for the next minute-or-so (Ideas 1-10 being shown), but when it next does, all three geishas are seen bleeding orally. The looks on their faces are funny. I laughed. Ha-ha.
In short, I see OBSCURE by DeG to be a work of genious, as far to the left-side of the board as you can get. I only first watched it last night, but since then I've viewed it at least 5 times. Yeah . . . I have no shred of human decency.
MY RATING: 10/10
