World’s Largest Anime and Manga Convention Announces a Sizeable Donation to a Major Charity And Closes Its Convention Doors for Another Year.
Anaheim, California (July 4, 2005) — Anime Expo® 2005 (AX2005), reigns supreme once again, as the largest convention of its kind with an attendance record breaking number of approximately 33,000. Hosted by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, AX2005 takes place July 1-4 at the Anaheim Convention Center and is expecting nearly 35,000 fans and anime industry professionals to attend. Supporting the efforts of City of Hope, AX2005’s Charity Auction event provides an opportunity for attendees and fans to bid on artwork and other items in which the proceeds are donated to cancer research and treatment for children. This year’s AX2005 Charity auction procured over $50,000.00 in proceeds for City of Hope cancer research and treatment for children.
During Closing Ceremonies, AX2005 closes its door and another successful chapter in anime convention history. Industry winners announced were:
Best Manga: USA Release – Bleach (VIZ LLC)
Best TV Series: USA Release – Wolf’s Rain: Leader of the Pack (Bandai Entertainment)
Best Film: USA Release _ Howl’s Moving Castle (Buena Vista Home Entertainment/Disney)
Best Booth: Geneon Entertainment
Best Company (USA) – ADV Films
Most Innovative Industry Sponsor – Geneon Entertainment
Next year’s expo, Anime Expo® 2006, will be held once again at the Anaheim Convention Center, July 1-4, 2006.
