Well, im very happy to know that you read the manga first and still liked the anime. It's up to your opinion. But for those of us who SAW the anime first, because it was made first, you should know how awful it was.
Though it is opinion, and im glad to know you werent turned off by it and didn't shred it to pieces and actually tried out the anime.

neither manga was nearly as good as the show. volume 2 is better than 1 IMO. I didn't like the part that Blue was evil but the two pups she saves I thought were cute!

You have to remember the manga was created by the same person who created the anime... so it was like they used the alternative ending.
But what the hell happened at the end?! We don't need a character to die at the end to add emotion, having them find paradise would've been best. But it ended with all of them on a cliff with guns pointed all around, then it cut to Tia and then it cut to the two cubs blue saved... and yeah, what the hell happened with Blue.
It would've been good IF it wasn't rushed. If they took 6 volumes instead of two to tell the story, it would've done better. Unfortunately, the anime wasn't a HUGE success in Japan (compared to Naruto, Inuyasha, and that other crap) so they didn't have a big budget to do more than two volumes... you can't really blame them, but I do think it could've been done better. The ending just lot it for me. What the feck happened?
But I'm glad I purchased them because Toboe looks so sexy teh way he's drawn (except in wolf form... all the wolves look bad in wolf form if you ask me... where are their pubils for one thing? They make them look evil >.<)
And Creator of Time... come back please!!

The ending, like the anime's ending, tried to be ambiguous and up to your interpretation. However, i think it was a little too ambiguous, i was a little confused by it. It rained, and it saved them, and they made it to paradise? or it rained, and it was like a tribute to them before they all died? No clue, because there's no after scene or anything.
Well, all i can say is, no one will get attached to a 2 volume manga. It had literally no character development, rushed like hell, and at times was plain confusing. And the animation of the wolves... >____<;

It was okay. I wouldn't say it was all great because I, like many fans, have seen the anime first and read the manga after. I like all but the way the wolves are drawn.

While I agree that the manga was nowhere near as good as the anime, and yes, the writers rushed it horribly, I did like the moment they gave Quent at the end of the second volume. I'm in the minority as a Quent fan, and it was nice to see it shown how much he loved Blue. It was shown in the OVA when he got nailed by the armored troop transport saving her, but the scene in the manga was more poignant. Also, Blue does survive. There is a page with the human characters and she is standing next to Quent.
I thought the "rain" shown coming down was a barrage from the war ships, which they wouldn't survive. Did anyone else get this impression?
