Do you consider yourself an anime fan?
I don't. I like to talk about it and all but I'm not the kind of fan that truly wants to learn Japanese, watch subs only or consider everything anime good. Actually, there are lots of anime/mangas out there I really dislike. Quite the same with American/French cartoons.
And I'll be more likely to be a manga fan than an anime one. (Except if Black Cat, Togari, The Awakening of the Dog God and some more are gonna become animes, which I don't think will ever happen, especially with Togari and TAotDG. ;_; ) OR an anime artwork fan.

more so for me the literal meaning of otaku. Because my whole life is basically anime...then school and football ...then more anime As you can see i own a LOT of anime dvd's (in my sig) but not only that, i have like 50 fansubs on my second HDD (one of those portable small ones) and i watch a few of my shows i have on dvd subbed too sometimes. I also own a LOT of manga though i have nowhere to list them lol. Also a lot of artbooks...oh and i basically only listen to japanese music...cept a few exceptions =/ This WOULD be a necropost...but sense there are no topics that are new anyway this isnt =/

I don't even know what a necropost is... Since in the last forums I went to I never saw that word. And threads like this were alright... I guess..

I am a BIG fan of anime i know some Japanese but not enough to get around Japan... in fact if i used my knowledge i'd probably end up getting myself killed... shows you how much i know... all of it that i know has to do with destruction and things like that except for about for or five words that i know... yippee-ki-ay i know how to say green, good morning, light green, and coral... that'll get me far *stomach growls* so hungry... why hasn't The M made dinner yet?! so hungry... need... food... starving...

I don't. I like to talk about it and all but I'm not the kind of fan that truly wants to learn Japanese, watch subs only or consider everything anime good. That's a rather sterreotypical idea of an anime fan. Some people call it being a "hardcore" anime fan, but I personally don't like that term. To me an anime fan is simply someone who likes anime in general. They make anime watching a hobby and are always seeking out new anime to watch whether it be in dub or subs. I've got a few friends who are anime fans who perfer watching dubs, but that doesn't mean they are any less of anime fans than people who feel it is absolutely nesscary to watch only subs. Personally, I watch both. And really, I think people who want to learn Japanese just because of anime and people who think everything about anime is good are pretty blindly obesessed. Also, an anime fan doesn't necessarily like every single anime they watch. That aside . . . yes, I do consider myself to be an anime fan as well as a manga fan.

I was going to say that I'm an anime fan, but not an anime fanatic, but I don't think I'm an anime fan, as much as just a fan of some anime. Some anime just make me cringe, so it's hard to defend an appreciation for the entire genre. On second thought, I take that back. I am an anime fan, just like I'm a sci-fi fan. There are many horrificly written pieces of... um, "poop" out there; I still love science fiction as a whole. Anime has its ups, downs, pros, cons, flings, and hard-core creeps like anything else in the world.

Anime's not really a genre. It's more of a medium. There are genres within anime. It's just like if you were talking about movies.

I am not a total anime fan cause there are some animes that I really can't stand to see like Cyborg 009. It all depends on what it looks like. I mean Cyborg 009 was drawn terribly. But stuff like Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, Inuyasha, etc. look great! I like to watch the stuff on tv so that I can somewhat learn how to draw sort of like that. But only some animes are good because they actually make sense. I can't understand whats going on in some of the shows. To be honest I am having a little trouble understanding whats going on in Wolf's Rain, but it is starting to come clear to me.

You don't have to like every anime you watch to be an anime fan. I consider myself an anime fan, but there is still a whole handful of anime I don't like. Also, being an anime fan can also apply to being a manga fan. It's actually pretty vague when someone says they're an anime fan. Like Azure mentioned, there are genres within anime.
Personally, I prefer watching subs, but that's just my preference.
