Does anybody else read these? I've been reading Uncanny X-Men for two years, and I just recently purchased all of the Sin City graphic novels (over $100 for all seven of them).

Comic books are to literature as white bread is to the food world.
Cookie to the person who correctly posts what I mean by that.

I used to read comics, but not anymore. The last thing I read like that was the Wolf's Rain Manga, which was okay I guess, but I like the show much more. However, I do still have some of my old comics...mostly Blackwulf ones. Comic books are to literature as white bread is to the food world. I have no idea. I thought about it, but really the meaning of the statement depends on the persons outlook of it. My perspective might be different of yours or anyones for that matter, so I'll let someone else go for it.

Comic books are to literature as white bread is to the food world. I think that I get it. Bread and wheats are at the bottom of the food pyramid, so I think that Mach here is saying that comics are at the bottom of the literature pyramid.

Comic books are to literature as white bread is to the food world. Cookie to the person who correctly posts what I mean by that. I'm thinkin' what he means by that is that comic books are "literature" that really isn't the best for you. I mean, if he'd compare Homer and others to wheat/whole grain bread, which is technically better for you, then comic books are the white bread. But yet a lot of people love white bread and prefer it to wheat/whole grain bread. Or, rather, some people prefer comic books to great literature. That's what I drew from it.

Shamdeo struck it right on the head. Comic books, like white bread, are low quality products fed to the masses, and neither are any good for you.

Not huge on comics. Not really on manga, either. Neither really captured my attention all that much, and after the Wolf's Rain manga, I just about swore all of it off.
Nah...give me a nice comedy novel (Jane Green or Sarah Mlynowski, maybe one of George Carlin's compilations), or a nice true-crime novel (or even a well-written Criminology textbook...I haven't seen many, but there was this one that I had a little while ago)

Now, though I may not agree with it (I love comics, I love writing them, I love illustrating them), I'll stick-up for your right to say it.

I read American graphic novels...which are sort of similar to comics in sense that they both tell stories mainly using pictures, but comics tend to run more in a series, and are usually about superheroes or the supernatural.
I just read The City of Glass which was really good.

Someone once told me I should write graphic novels, but I wasn't sure what the difference in them was. Is there any difference in graphic novels and comics?

Older fans of comic books use the term graphic novels to distant the often childish thoughts that enter the mind when comic books are mentioned. I guess you could say that more mature comics are referred to as graphic novels by alot of their fans.
comics/graphic novels never caught my attention. i'd prefer to read something like The Star Fox by Poul Anderson (fav book) or the Maltese Falcon (classic PI story)

Well, I don't read much, but I do write. My stories was one of the things someone suggested Graphic Novels for, because I had mentioned turning it into a comic. But that ship has sailed and I don't think that's gonna happen because, I tried, but well it requires too much I think for one solitary person. So I guess I'll just have to stick with my original plan on just getting my book published. (with pictures)
