Napoleon was the greatest. Even with all the European powers arrayed against him he held together a European Empire from Northern Europe to the tip of the Italian pinsula from 1800 to 1809. He was the master of land warfare. He created the largest Empire in Europe since the Roman Empire. HE WAS EUROPE!

Saddam Hussein! Just kidding.
They were all great once, but the greater they became the harder they fell.

Major Richard Sharpe ^.^ Ok... so he wasn't real, but does that matter? Sherlock Homes is one of the greatest detectives. -he's- not real.

Yes, it does.
In my opinion, the greatest commander was Sun-tzu. He commanded China's military at one point and the book he wrote was and is still the basis of what all developed militaries are taught today.

If I'm not wrong, the women he used were the Emperors concubines?

I'm not sure if they were ever used in combat, but yes, he made a group of the Emperor's Concubines military compatible in about one or two days. Of course he had to execute two of them to get the other's attention, but hey, that's exactly how a military should work.

I have to say, out of all the COmmanders I would be tempted to say Richard the Lionheart, he definetly knew how to keep things togther, and he knew how to lead an army to victory.
He used great military tactics and strategy to out wit and use the enemy weakness to his full advantage.

The British have the better military man for man though. They even bring British officers from abroad to train our troops.
