Who do you think was the greatest military commander? When doing this please put some feed back behind your choice.
Personally I don't think Alexander the Great was a great commander, this is because he could create an empire but not keep it together.
Thus I choose Richard the Lionhearted. The man knew how to invade! Create large forts, use seige weapons to a large degree(though that tended to be British tradition) and use well disciplined troops that wouldn't break a formation to attack as they choose.

Ceta the sad thing is as a commander, in his later years I could probably have done better than Hitler.

Hitler was a crappy comander: he used some pretty stupid tactics.
For me...it'd be...
Ceasar.

I would have to say the greatest non-military lesder was Ghandi, but the best military one would have to be...
The leader of the confederacy, as he thought to fight a defensive war. His only mistake, choosing to charge forth to the Northern territory.

I think Ceasar was a good leader, but he was sub-par for my standards.

Cortes was also a great conquerer, he took over Tenochtitlan with only about 800 heavily armored Spanish soldiers. Ofcourse treachery was a big part.
Ceasar was a great commander, but it is easy to conquer when you already have a rather large army behind you.

That's one reason why I don't like him much.

Ceasar was a great commander, but it is easy to conquer when you already have a rather large army behind you. They still study some of his greatest tactics today though. He singlehandedly turned a democracy into a dictatorship. The man was no fool.
