I agree completely that it isn't fair to compare the two. I mean, I mainly look at the time frames. Back when Roseanne first came out, for a cartoon like Family guy to be out at that time would have been unheard of. And in today's time, a show like Roseanne premiering might not have recieved the hoopla that it had because this is a different generation with different ideals in what's entertaining..
Of course, I could be wrong in either direction.

No your pretty much right on. Back when Roseanne was airing, you know they had the first same sex kiss on TV. Thats huge right there. They talked about alcoholism, drug abuse, physical abuse, how to deal with old parents (if you know who bev is, boy she was funny). Boy that show was/still is pretty awesome

I used to be a huge fan of the Cosby Show. Once the Bill Cosby scandal thing came out I haven't watched it for awhile but that show has some touching moments.

Roseanne was trying to get over the fact that Dan left her and she wasn't getting out of bed and didn't want any company. Throughout the episode, each member of the family went in her room one by one to try and cheer her up... and each person she dismissed...... Finally the family was like we can't take this anymore and they all march into her room and single file in... and Roseanne looks at them and goes... "WHAT IS THIS.... THE GRAND FINALE!?!" Roseanne to DJ: You're doing that play and that's all there is to it! DJ: Well, dad said I didn't have to and dad outranks you! Roseanne: Are you new? Jackie: Mom drank while she was pregnant with us. Roseanne: Oh Jackie, after a few months in Mom we probably needed a shot or two. Dan: Hey Roseanne. I just saw all the animals in the neighborhood running in circles, so I guess that means your mother will be arriving soon. Roseanne: Hold the knife steady Dan, I keep missing my wrist. RoFl

I'm suprised no one said Married with Children, or how about, I know this isn't the "Greatest TV Show Ever" but, does anyone like 8 Simple Rules? Or George Lopez, omg that show is so hilarious, George is so funny. I loved 8 Simple Rules with John Ridder, I can't believe he is dead, it's sad but... I still like the show regardless.

Haha, Married with Children's hillarious. That's one heck of a disfuntional family.
