You are a most eloquent rhetorician. We all have to be good at something.

Color me old-fashioned, but unless the sex carries any true meaning, I really fail to see the point in it. (So says the virgin, and proud of it.) I don't understand why sex is such a big industry, because it's a special bond between two people, not to mention the mysterious origin of the little toddler types. I think that people don't put enough value on sex anymore. Regardless of industries or what sells, if it doesn't contribute to the personal development of the characters, I don't think it needs to be pasted all over today's literature. But that's just my opinion...it's really depressing to hear guys talk about women nowadays as nothing but sex objects, talking about their latest lay, and see all these pregnant girls at school, hearing them talk about The Pill and selling themselves around for a little fun...don't get me wrong, I'm not a censorship guru, but where is the line between classy/loving and just...trashy? Perhaps that's a little off topic...to answer the question, I'd say Should there be MUCH sex in anime? And to that I say No. Should there be sex in anime? A tough call. For me, anyway..

There's nothing that can be done aboutt he way some guys portray women, as well as the way some women portray themselves. I believe that women have it better off now than ever, think back along the timeline, a millenia ago raping women was common practice, a century ago women were in many respects still considered property. So, in my opinion, the world's veiws on women are improving not declining. Sorry to stray off the topic.

yes this does seem to be going off-topic but it has a very good point i think some younger members should check out. i myself dont have any problem with it due to the fact if a R movie is rated because of sexual themes or situations its almost X rated. heck they show just about everything now, whats are world coming to?

Apparently, a more relaxed and tolerant state of mind. S'not ALWAYS a bad thing.

I hate to break it to you, but, society's view towards sex has been like that since and before pre-history. You could go back two hundred years ago and still find 13 year olds having sex.

True. The "ideal sheltered childhood" is actually a recent invention. It began in the victorian era when Queen Victoria pampered her children. Before then, children were exposed to just about anything and everything unless they were high class.

Quite true, many cultures, even ones more recent, like the Romani (or gypsies if you prefer) had their frist sexual encounters at 12 years or younger, and with siblings and cousins. The idea that sex is simply for marriage/procreation ect is an idea stemmed from religion. Anyhow, I don't think sex in anime will warp and child's mind, just like playing grand theft auto isn't going to inspire kids to take a trip to wally world and buy a shot gun to repeat Columbine. If parents are so worried about it corrupting thier children, then monitor what they watch, censorship isn't the answer. There's plenty of series appropriate for the younger set. For the most part, the series that have a lot of sex content aren't really geared or appealing to those under 13 anyway. Yes, many times it's simply fanservice, but what's wrong with that? With the way the young fangirls fawn over some of these characters I don't think they've animated anything people weren't already thinking about ~_^

What really ticks me off is that people treat anime like cartoon for kinds. Anime is NOT disney, and people only regard animation as suited for kids. They're acting dumb. Sex can be featured in anime - it makes the show a little more grown up and serious. However, to mostly everybody but those who care about anime, anime + sex = hentai. That should be avoided - the sex scenes in serious movies and shows (which are not hentai) should be more realistic and true than what people get used to when watching La Blue Girl. In Trigun, Wolfwood sleeps with Milly, and the creators let you know it in a very classy and stylish way . Then again, the creators may feel an erotic scene is MUST, so just like the movies industry, they can include it.

I had just argued this point yesterday in the car with my father, when I brought up this subject. He said something along the lines of "Well, don't think they should, because anime is for kids." I tried to explain it was more than that, but I think he quit listening after a while. Parents.

It is an estremely difficult task to convince others that anime is not only for kids and that is not always evil vs good. They will never understand it until they actually see it. I fell in love with anime without the sex scenes etc. It is a very risky move if anime creators would include sex scenes into their animes. It is true that sex is a natural thing that should not be prohibited but it was be done carefully. Personally i wouldn't mind the sex scenes as long as they are pertinent to the plot. I usually try to keep them seperate.
